Tamarind is the pioneer of South Indian delicacies that goes beyond the regular Idli, Dosa, Uttapam. The restaurant was the first of its kind to introduce Kolkata to the cuisines of the coastal regions of South India that includes recipes from Kerala, Malabar coast , Andra etc. Since the coastal regions have more access to fresh seafood like fish, crab and prawns, the coastal palette is very different from the typical South Indian food that we get in kolkata. Due to the diversity of the different cultures in South India, the menus differ from region to region- the anglo indians have a different cooking style than the south indian muslims, in all a diverse culinary style and cuisine.
Apart from the South Indian delicacies, Tamarind also offers an extensive North Indian Menu. From delectable kebabs to chicken preparations to Hyderabadi biryani, the North Indian menu is as good as the South Indian menu.
Recently Tamarind's menu has been changed. There has been new additions to the existing menu. It is divided into two sections- The South Menu and the Beyond south Menu. Under the Beyond South menu, which is the North Indian menu, recipes from the regions of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa Coastal and Orissa has been added to the Menu.
